Bare Metal Cloud FAQs
Bare Metal Cloud is a platform that allows users to deploy, consume, and manage bare metal resources as code without hypervisor overhead or noisy neighbors. It provides cloud-level agility combined with predictable costs and performance.
AWS EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) is a selection of customizable VMs (virtual machines) offering on-demand resources as part of the AWS cloud service portfolio, usually without direct access to the hardware. Costs for EC2 environments tend to be less predictable and controllable than for environments running on BMC servers.
The Bare Metal Cloud (BMC) platform lets organizations quickly provision single-tenant environments powered by next-gen bare metal, manage them programmatically with IaC tools, and consume them as a service. In other words, BMC grants automated access to fleets of dedicated servers on the same network and shared storage access, enabling cloud-like scalability and ease of management of dedicated IT resources.
Private cloud and Bare Metal Cloud (BMC) have overlapping features depending on the type of private cloud.
Private cloud features virtual infrastructure built on hardware and software owned or used exclusively by one organization (or architectured on public clouds to perform similarly). On the other hand, BMC offers bare metal resources as a service and lets users run workloads directly on the hardware without a virtualization layer. As such, BMC gives users a stable yet flexible IT environment, in addition to the freedom to own and operate their tech stack above the infrastructure level.
Depending on the operating system you choose during the deployment process, you can have your pre-configured Bare Metal Cloud server up and running in anywhere from 60 seconds to 2 or 3 minutes.
With on-demand access to over 50 server instances deployable in a matter of minutes via API, CLI, or WebUI, you can easily find ideal resources for anything from Kubernetes sandboxes, over web and file servers, or high-transaction databases and data-intensive analytics, to AI, ML, and NLP workloads. Bare Metal Cloud adapts to the performance, cost, and versatility needs of your organization, not vice versa.
Bare Metal Cloud instances can be deployed at Phoenix, AZ, Ashburn, VA, Chicago, IL, and Seattle, WA, in the U.S., as well as Amsterdam, NL, in the EU, and Singapore, SGP, in APAC.
Your instance can come with pre-installed Ubuntu, CentOS, Alma Linux, Rocky Linux, Debian, Windows, Proxmox, Virtuozzo, or Oracle Linux operating systems. You can even install Ubuntu in RAM and use it to install a custom OS. For advanced networking options, Netris software is also available as a pre-configured OS.
Bare Metal Cloud servers come equipped with enterprise-grade local NVMe drives. However, the platform lets you near-instantly extend your server instance’s storage with terabytes of all-flash VAST network file storage or S3-compatible object storage.
These versatile servers can be consumed on a pay-as-you-go basis and billed by the hour. For additional cost optimization, discounts are available for monthly and yearly reservations. Billing and usage details are fully transparent and easily accessible via the platform’s self-service portal.
